The Apprenticeship Grant is worth £1500 per apprentice and is available to companies who without this financial support would not be in a position to take on an apprentice. You would need to employ, or host on a placement basis, a 16- to 24- year old to do a full apprenticeship programme.
To be eligible for the Apprenticeship Grant you must:
- confirm that you are not able to recruit an apprentice without the grant
- have fewer than 50 employees in the United Kingdom
- not have had an apprentice in the 12-month period before the start date of the first apprentice for whom you apply for the Grant.
If you are eligible, you can claim up to 5 Apprenticeship Grants during the time the Grant is available and you do not have to wait 12 months between the first and any subsequent applications.
Only one Apprenticeship Grant will be paid per employer for any particular individual and you will need to commit to employ, or have your apprentice(s) on a placement through SEAC, for a minimum of 12 months on the apprenticeship programme or the time it takes them to complete their apprenticeship, whichever is the greater.
You must also agree to pay the apprentice in line with legal minimum requirements or more. From October 1st 2015 this will be a minimum of £3.30 per hour and the minimum hours your apprentice must work is 30.
