Technical Theatre Apprenticeship at a school in Hythe, Kent

This Apprenticeship in Technical Theatre: Sound Light and Stage role is based within a school academy with Performing Arts and Rural Dimensions status in Hythe Kent. This is an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about all aspects of theatre production, and end up with a recognised qualification.  Duties will include: providing technical support for rehearsals, productions, projects and events, maintaining a safe and secure workplace, undertaking the proper maintenance, storage and distribution of equipment, supporting students, acting as deputy technician alongside the more senior technicians and other duties common to all production staff.

The Apprenticeship in Technical Theatre: Sound Light and Stage is designed to develop knowledge and skills in areas such as sound, light and stage management and support. The qualification includes: keeping up to date with technical and production developments in the live arts, cleaning up your own work area, giving others a positive impression of yourself and your organisation, contributing to good working relationships, and being aware of health and safety in the creative and cultural sector. If you are passionate about the theatre, determined, good at managing deadlines, enthusiastic, confident, helpful and proactive then this could be the career for you.

Previous experience in the following areas are desirable: audio, electrics, carpentry, rigging, pyrotechnics/special effects, stage management and wardrobe.

You will gain the skills to access further training or work in the theatre industry.

You will be on placement with an academy school with Performing Arts and Rural Dimensions status. It is a popular school of 1300 students situated in rural surroundings on the edge of Hythe, Kent. It is their aim to develop an Arts and Creative Thinking learning culture, which is inventive, innovative, expressive, mathematical, scientific, technological and vocational.

You will gain a recognised qualification and excellent work experience whilst being supported in the workplace by the staff at the site, a dedicated SEAC Account Manager and a Training Assessor.
