Your Responsibilities as a Host Company

SEAC can provide apprenticeships without your organisation getting bogged down in red tape and bureaucracy. As a company 'hosting' an apprentice(s) you will, however, have certain responsibilities.

You will, for example, need to:

  • Produce a job role detailing the work to be performed by the apprentice and a person specification - what are the skills, knowledge, qualifications and personal attributes that you are looking for?
  • Be in a position to host the apprentice for the duration of the full Apprenticeship
  • Provide an introduction into your workplace so that the apprentice knows what is expected of them and what they should expect of others
  • Provide the apprentice with work tasks and relevant on-the-job experience so that they can complete their training and gain their trade or vocational qualification
  • Provide a safe working environment for the apprentice and allow the assigned training provider to conduct a Health & Safety review of your premises before the apprentice starts. If the role requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), you will provide the apprentice with the correct attire at your cost
  • Provide a supportive environment for the apprentice and ensure they receive supervision, direction and control by a suitably qualified and experienced person
  • Confirm your compliance with all statutory requirements regarding adequate Public Liability insurance of not less than £5 million for any one claim
  • Allow the apprentice to attend any required formal off-the-job vocational training or any opportunities for on-the-job training in accordance with your apprentice's agreed Individual Learning Plan.
